OUR MISSION

In 1870, twenty women pledged their time and energy to help furnish and support the District of Columbia’s original Children’s Hospital. Those founding Board members brought in twelve cribs, infant bedding, and towels to the hospital’s first location near present-day Metro Center.

Today, proceeds from our signature fundraiser – A Vintage Affair – support an Annual Grants and Major Gift Program that helps doctors, nurses and staff develop and sustain cutting-edge research, treatments and programs to serve the patients treated at this world class institution. The Board of Visitors is proud to have awarded grants, fund-a-need donations and major gifts to the hospital totaling more than $14.6 million.

A Vintage Affair

A Vintage Affair is our wine and culinary fundraiser held each spring, where guests experience exquisite wines paired with inspired cuisine. This exciting epicurean event gathers wine lovers, foodies and Washingtonians for an evening to remember. A Vintage Affair also features live and silent auctions with unique and remarkable offerings including rare wines, exotic trips, and one-of-a-kind dining experiences.

GRANTS & MAJOR GIFTS

Each fall, hospital staff are invited to submit grant applications. Each application is carefully reviewed by The Board of Visitors’ Grants Committee and grantees are notified in April of The Board’s decision.
