The Board of Visitors allocates funds to Children’s National through both its Annual Grants and Major Gifts Program. Through the Board’s fundraising efforts, the Annual Grants Program has awarded more than $8 million to support initiatives to develop and sustain cutting-edge research and innovative treatments, purchase critical medical equipment, improve patients’ hospital experience and support the professional development of our doctors, nurses and hospital staff.

The Board of Visitors grants, like the patients and families at Children’s National, are remarkably diverse. Past awards have supported research, cutting-edge equipment and technology, pediatric surgical robots, professional development, educational support, and the transformation of Little Tykes cars and wagons to accommodate devices for oxygen, IV poles and monitors for our smallest patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Grant management system open for Letter of Intent (LOI) submission: August 31, 2018

LOI due to Board of Visitors: October 1, 2018 by 5 p.m.

LOI response from Board of Visitors to applicant: October 22, 2018

Full grant proposal due to Board of Visitors: November 30, 2018 by 5 p.m.

Grant request investigation Interviews by BOV: January and February 2019

Grant applicants notified of grant award and fund amount:  April 1, 2019


How to Submit Your 2018-2019 Grant Letter of Intent

For FY2019, the Board of Visitors has brought its grant application process online! To submit a Letter of Interest (LOI), please follow the steps below:
